Brittany Bell
Women's Basketball
Brittany Bell, a senior guard on the Allegheny women’s basketball team, was also named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Player of the Week.

 

Bell shot 57 percent from the floor and 52 percent from behind the arc, averaging 15 points in a 2-1 week for the Gators. She knocked in 11 triples on the week, including five against Wittenberg for a team-high 17 points. Bell also added 13 and 15 points in the wins over Hiram and Earlham, respectively.

 

On the season, she ranks second on the team with 9.8 points per game. Bell is second in the NCAC in three-point field-goal percentage (.385) and is fourth in three-pointer per game (2.24).

Lauren Butler
Women's Track and Field
Allegheny women's track and field thrower Lauren Butler was honored by the North Coast Athletic Conference as its Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Butler, a sophomore, won the shot put event at Mount Union's Jim Wuske Invitational. Her winning attempt traveled 11.84 meters (38 feet, 10 1/2 inches).

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Josh Sesek and Brandon Intrieri each picked up two individual victories and swam a leg on the winning 200 yard medley relay to lead the Allegheny men’s swimming and diving team defeat West Virginia Welseyan 105-88 in non-conference action on Friday night.

The Gators (1-0) won five out of 13 events to pick up their first dual-meet win in the home opener.

Mirno Pasquali started the 200 yard medley relay, followed by Sesek, Intrieri and Matt Gauthier finished the race for a time of 1:38.27 to earn 11 points for Allegheny. The Gators went 2-4-5 in the 1000 yard freestyle for another nine points. Brandon Staley was edged by Nick Tworek by a half a stroke, falling three tenths of a second with a time of 10:37.41 for second place. Kristoffer Wigley swam in 10:40.68 for third and Evan Lewis came in fourth (11:16.35).

It was also a battle in the 200 yard freestyle. Jeff Dye and Pasquali were neck-and-neck the entire race, but Wesleyan captured first place with 1:47.52.  Pasquali touched moments later in 1:47.67.

Intrieri won the 50 free in 21.98 in the fourth event of the day, before Sesek posted his best time in a dual meet in the 200 yard IM almost under the two-minute mark with a 2:00.84 finish.  Intrieri won his second event of the day in the 100 free in 48.52.

With two events to go, Allegheny held a 92-77 lead over the Bobcats. Sesek earned his second individual win in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching in 1:00.93 to put the Gators out of reach. The team of Timothy O’Brien, Matt Ehmann, Christian Steinwarz and Andrew Bean swam 1:34.02 in the 200 yard free relay for the final win of the meet.

Allegheny returns to action tomorrow against Grove City. Meet begins at 12 p.m.
